Choose a baseline before a complex model and inspect whether the target is measured reliably. Features available only after diagnosis cannot support a model meant for prediagnosis screening. State the intended use before deciding which model to fit.
Worked example
A prediagnosis screen cannot use a biopsy result obtained after diagnosis. Compare a simple biomarker threshold with a model using only measurements available at screening time.
