A toggle switch uses mutually repressing genes to support alternative states; an oscillator uses delayed negative feedback to create repeated changes. Positive feedback can reinforce a chosen state and negative feedback can restore balance. Circuit behavior depends on equations, parameters and initial conditions. Changing a parameter keeps the interaction structure; changing an edge changes the model itself.
Worked example
Simulate dx/dt = a/(1+y^2)-x and dy/dt = a/(1+x^2)-y from two initial states. Compare the trajectories before calling a state switch robust.
