EEG records scalp voltage influenced by many neural and non-neural sources. A time series can be summarized by frequency and power spectrum; introductory bands include delta, theta, alpha, beta and gamma. Muscle movement, blinks and line noise can mimic or distort patterns. A band-power difference is an observation, not a direct map to one neuron type or mental state.
Worked example
A synthetic 10 Hz signal appears in the alpha range, but a 10 Hz peak alone does not diagnose a condition. Inspect artifacts and recording context first.
