A biological network represents entities as nodes and influences as activating or inhibiting interactions. State changes over time because production, degradation and feedback interact. Positive feedback can amplify a state; negative feedback can stabilize or dampen it. A network diagram is a hypothesis about interactions, not proof that every drawn edge is real.
Worked example
If protein A activates its own production, increasing A may raise future production. Add a degradation term before predicting indefinite growth.
